I saw the article shown above on the Huffington Post this morning, and it really ticks me off! The 1% is squelching the 99%'s voice... It really is disgusting! My brother thinks the whole Occupy thing is just a bunch of socialist crap, but I totally support it. Mind you, I'm 24 with a bachelor's degree, I work 2 jobs, 60 hours per week, and barely make $20k per year. He is 26, owns his own house, works one job, 40 hrs per week, and makes $85k per year. He's still part of the 99% though...
Seriously though, why are our educators (the people training our future!!!) making $35k/yr while a jock runs around a field once a week for $10mil per game? You're telling me they really NEED all of that?? These are three of my favorite infographics:
Disgusting, right? A president at a local Uni recently added some "pork" to a local bill that was providing money to the school in exchange for some land so the city could build a transport system around the outskirts of the campus... Apparently the president "over budgeted' and used the extra cash to add a pool and some nice landscaping to the President's house... Mind you, there was an uproar and he was booted out when everyone found out what he'd done. Regardless, these are the greedy people we have in charge right now.
It's time for change.

Agreed!
Don't agree VAbookworm :) but enjoyed reading your post nonetheless.
Sadly the few 'occupy' demonstrators (small numbers for each city) have swallowed a lot of socialist propaganda about the economic and cultural fabric of the USA.
The Huff n' Puff post is where you find a highly concentrated source of that type of radical rhetoric. Often the content at that website is proven to be blatent lies.
Why should those who work hardest, create all the jobs in the country, and already pay an enormous percentage of the money they earn, be punished for their accomplishments? The occupy people represent a very tiny segment of US population.
Their laughable protests have been orchestrated by limousine liberals who within the past few days complained the authentic NYC homeless were consuming too much of their occupy 'organic' food supply. That's the type of utter hypocrisy you'll clearly recognize when you actually meet some of the organizers.
If they were wise enough to recognize the true source of joblessness in this country, they'd be occupying the street in front of the White House in Wash DC. The trillion dollar 'stimulus' plan was absolutely wrong-headed, resulted in only more government jobs(which are actually a drag on the economy because they're paid with tax revenue).
Someday you'll be in the same position as your brother - perhaps then you'll understand why it's neither fair nor wise to support socialist class-warfare propaganda, which demands unearned benefits from the results of someone else's hard work. It's true that the biggest stumbling block for regressive socialist political beliefs is the fact you eventually run out of other people's money.
Good luck to you and your brother - you both sound like hard-working, productive Americans.
Best wishes, ann
I totally agree that they are protesting in the wrong location :) I'd be in front of the White House too... Although it bugs me that everyone blames Obama for our economic problems! He may be the face of our government, but he just signs the stuff that our legislative branch writes up. People need to stop blaming Obama and hold their local legislators more accountable. They're the ones who work a few weeks a year and make bank off of pork and such that they add to their bills. I'm all for democracy, but like the images I posted, I believe our government has sold out.
