The Virginia Earthquake [LIVE]

9:46 PM
Not a SINGLE aftershock! How boring!!!

3:18 PM
Where are the aftershocks we were promised? How unexciting!

2:52 PM
Dang... just realized the ramifications of this... Everyone is going mad getting ready for Hurricane Irene, and now we have earthquakes too... and I have to go to the grocery store later. It's going to suck :-/

2:45 PM
Apparently there are concerns about the nuclear plant in Surrey, VA... No worries though! They say power was knocked out but everything was manually shut down and generators are up and running!

2:35 PM
All in all, totally anticlimactic... waiting for some aftershocks to roll through :D Apparently this mess was felt all the way in New York! They're calling it a 6.0 now. Japan's earthquake was a 6.8, yes? I'm not so worried about me, but I'm glad big brother is ok. He works on the 19th floor of his building in Norfolk. He said they were rocked.

2:28 PM
Just checking in! I'm alive! We all are, I suspect... it wasn't a gnarly one.

2:19 PM
The Virginia Marine Science Center says there's no possiblity of tsumamis, so no worries here in Virginia Beach. Did people think there might be? Sure, if it had been an offshore quake, but it was in central Virginia...

2:16 PM
Just increased to a 5.9 on the Richter scale.

2:06 PM
Quake is being called a 5.8 on the Richter scale, epicenter is Mineral, VA

1:55 PM
Earthquake! How exciting!!! Our building started shaking and the folks I work with say, "What's going on?". Seriously, I know we rarely get them, but need you ask? So I head for a doorway, and they walk into the main part of the building and ask other people coming out of offices, "Is it the wind?" As our building shakes harder. Really?! We make it through hurricanes (Irene is on her way, btw), and you think a regular breeze is going to shake the building??? According to Darwinism, I and maybe 5 people in this office would survive a real disaster.

Snagged the cell real quick and immediately hopped on Twitter/Facebook. Always good for quick news!

  1. I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one completely unimpressed by the earthquake. By the way people were reacting here in Virginia Beach you would have thought it started snowing.
