Review & Giveaway: Someday My Prince Will Come by Jerramy Fine

What’s not to love about a country steeped in centuries of history, ruled by kings, and filled with men that speak with the hottest accent on the planet??? Jerramy Fine totally agrees that there’s no place on Earth that is as awesome as England. Born to hippies and raised in a teepee, Jerramy always felt out of place. From an early age, she felt a strong sense that there had been a tragic mix-up at birth, separating her from her upper class British family. One day while in the library, Jerramy saw a photo of Peter Phillips, grandson of HRH Queen Elizabeth II. She knew immediately that they were meant for one another, and that she would one day be his princess. As she grew older, Jerramy did everything she could to prepare herself for the day she joined the royal family. From studying proper English etiquette to hosting tea parties and dressing like the glamorous Grace Kelly, she planned on being ready for her debut in England.

After years of waiting, the opportunity finally came for Jerramy to study abroad in London. From the moment she arrives in England, her life is a whirlwind of what every anglophile dreams about! Wild parties with Oxford guys and invitations to the most highbrow events are day-to-day life events for Jerramy. Although she has her share of fun with all of the Hugh Grant lookalikes at Oxford, she continues throughout the book to pursue the love of her life, Peter Phillips. Does she eventually get her prince and live happily ever after? You’ll have to read it to find out!

Never in my life have I ever felt that I had so much in common with an author! Her tale of taking the plunge and moving to England is both inspiring and cautionary. I learned an incredible amount from this book, all while having an excellent laugh! It’s tough to be certain if the entire story is true, or if she embellished a bit for the readers, but all I know is that I wish I could live just one day in her shoes!

The characters you meet throughout Jerramy’s experiences are interesting and diverse. She specifically states in the introduction that although the story is real, some of the names are not (for legal purposes). It leaves you wondering who the characters really are, especially since some of them are prominent individuals. I love that although everyone keeps telling Jerramy she’s completely nuts for loving everything British so much, she presses on, completely ignoring their criticism. I also loved her parents- especially her mom- who were constantly entertaining with their hippie outlook on life. Jerramy’s interactions with her parents, crazy roommates, and friends will definitely have you laughing!

I loved the writing style of this book. Although it’s primarily narrative, her insights and thought processes are hilarious! I love that there are footnotes throughout, in case you don’t know a term, or to clarify details of British culture that may be beyond a typical American’s knowledge. I especially loved the end (which I won’t divulge), when she offers an epilogue and some insight. I think she conveyed her message incredibly well, and feel like I’ve learned a great deal from her shared experience.

If you’re an anglophile, I strongly suggest you read this book! Jerramy experiences so many incredible events and meets so many interesting people that I can’t even begin to convey the gamut of emotions you roll through while reading this book. That being said, I will say I’ve never laughed so much while reading a book! Someday My Prince Will Come is insightful, poignant, and entertaining. This is definitely a book that will remain on my shelf for a long time, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a nice, lighthearted read. So cozy up on your couch and enjoy this fantastic book!
